Day 22: Keep Your Eyes Pure

Please take the time to read the verses for today:
Matthew: 6: 22-24

22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!"
What leads us into sin? Our eyes! We see something we want or something that is desirable and become tempted and then possibly fall into sin, if we don't resist.
I know with my children I am very strict over what they can and cannot watch or see whether it is a television show or commercial, a movie or video game. Images once seen cannot be removed.

I remember when I was in college the Christian Group on our campus, InterVarsity, held a conference on sex. They talked about the many reasons why should never look at pornography, but the two I remember distinctly were: 1. You will always hold onto those images, even after you get married. 2. Once you look at pornography it may arouse in you a desire for more that will lead into even a deeper sin- sex before marriage, adultery...

God is calling us to keep our eyes pure so that it will lead to a pure life. Something I have to fight is looking at desserts! I was in the grocery store yesterday, I just ran in to get bread, but then I saw potato chips! I thought, 'Oh, the kids would love this with lunch,' but then I realized 'I' would be the one to eat most of them! I had to fight what I saw and move on. I am happy to say I didn't buy the chips!
24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." Yesterday's Scripture said, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matthew 6:21) God is calling us to resist anything that keeps our heart from Him. Sin can master us. If we know we are in sin and continue in it, we will run from God, but if we repent, we are free from shame and guilt and will run to God, and that is what He wants! He wants us! Our hearts.

Pray with me:
Father, Thank you for making a way for me to abandon my sin and addictions and run to you. Thank you that you desire a relationship with me. Help me to keep my eyes pure, resist temptation, and follow closely to your heart. In Jesus' name. Amen.
