Day 98: Jesus is the Messiah

Please read the Bible verses for today:
Matthew 22:41-46

Whose Son Is the Messiah?

41 "While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them," (Matthew 22:41) Yesterday, we read how Jesus 'silenced' the Sadducees, but than how the Pharisees rose up in their place and continued to challenge Jesus. Today, we see Jesus challenging the Pharisees and silencing them too!
42 What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?”
The Messiah is the long awaited King and deliverer of the Jewish people. As Jesus is speaking to the teacher's of the law, He challenges them to think about who the Messiah will be because He, Himself, is the Messiah standing right in front of them! Jesus knows the answer: The Messiah is the Son of God.
“The son of David,” they replied.
In essence they say, a descendant of King David, and although that is true-Jesus is a descendent from the line of David, the Messiah is MORE THAN a man. More than a descendant. The Messiah is the the Son of God and man.
43 He said to them, How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him ‘Lord’? For he says,
44 “‘The Lord said to my Lord:
    “Sit at my right hand
until I put your enemies
    under your feet.”’
45 If then David calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?” (Matthew 22:43-45)
So, In response to the Pharisees, Jesus quotes Scripture: Psalm 110. David is the author of the Psalms and he wrote: "The Lord said to my Lord." Jesus is bringing out that David himself understood that the Messiah is from God, the Son of God. David is saying, "The Lord" -The Father God, spoke to "my Lord" - the Messiah, Son of God, Jesus. The Messiah is more than a man, more than a descendant. He is God and Jesus proves it by quoting Scripture to them.

46 No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions." (Matthew 22:42-46)
Ding. Ding. The battle has been won! "No one could say a word in reply, and from that day no one dared to ask him anymore questions." The Pharisees are out for the count. They are finished. Jesus IS the Messiah. The Holy One sent from God. Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus is God.

Pray with me:
Thank you Jesus for being who you are! My Savior! My Messiah! My Hero! Thank you Jesus that you did not back down to the bullies of your day, IE: Sadducees and Pharisees. Thank you that you continued to stand for the truth. Help me to stand for the truth in any and every situation. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
