Day 118: He Did It For Us
Please read the Bible verses for today:
Matthew 27:27-31

The Soldiers Mock Jesus

27" Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him." (Matthew 27:27)
Pilate's soldiers had taken Jesus away to be flogged. This event is after Jesus had been scourged. "...the whole company..." is about six hundred soldiers. (One Volume Bible Commentary).
28" They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29 and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand." (Matthew 27:28-29) According to my commentary, Jesus had been stripped for this scourging. After being flogged, (which I cannot imagine the pain and torture), they brought Jesus back into the Praetorium where they dressed Him in a scarlet robe and crowned Him with a crown of thorns in mockery of being a King.
"Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said. 30 They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. 31 After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him." (Matthew 27:29-31)
I can hardly ever read this passage in Scripture. It is painful to read. What Jesus endured is beyond what my heart and mind can grasp. The evil that He witnessed in the heart of man. The physical pain. All of it.
Pray with me:
Jesus, thank you for all that you endured for my sake. Thank you for your obedience to the Father. Thank you for loving me so much. Help me to live in obedience to the Father. I love you. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
